Cameroon Fishing

Cameroon has a number of great fishing opportunities.  There is ocean fishing as well as a huge number of rivers.  In the King's zone the Mao Rey River runs 50 yards in front of your private bungalow.

The camp is situated next to a series of waterfalls and pools that hold the biggest fish in the river.  Every year in September the rainy season starts in earnest and by October the whole landscape belies the parched earth seen during the hunting season.  The river rises and often overflows its banks.

As the water recedes there are large pools left that hold the fish.  Starting in January through the end of May there is good fishing as noted in photos below.  Fishing only trips are $2500 for 7 days in the zone, 11 days in the country.  An audience with the king will be arranged if he is at his palace at Rey-Bouba.

Tiger fish to 10 pounds and Nile perch to 30 pounds are the main predator fish.  Catfish up to 50 pounds lurk in the deepest pools, and there is a wide variety of fish that have never seen a fly or your fancy new lure.

Trip starts in Yaoundé where we meet you off the plane.  You will spend the night in a hotel and then take a picturesque train ride to the north of Cameroon.  From there you ride in my vehicle to the camp, which is pretty nice.  Private bungalows with solar lighting are offered.

This trip can be combined with gold panning.

Fishing can also be arranged in other parts of Cameroon depending on what you would like and what is available at the time.
